THURSDAY, MARCH 8 - SUMMER DAY CAMP 2012 OPEN HOUSE.  Children and parents will have the opportunity to speak with staff and learn about the exciting activities planned for the summer.  Please join us from 5:00pm - 7:00pm at the East Orange YMCA Turrell Gymnasium at 159 North Munn Avenue.

  Remember, you can always register for the following:
  • Register for Swimming Lessons - Learn to swim with a small class, one-on-one with our instructor or rent our indoor, heated pool.  We'll save a fish for you!
  • Have a Party - if you need space for an occasion, such as a child's birthday party, pool party or baby shower, we have space for you to rent.  Please contact us with your name, number, party purpose and requested date/time and we'll get back to you.

2011 TOUCH OF GIVING HOLIDAY CELEBRATION (Wednesday, December 21) - The East Orange YMCA and Touch Bayou Catering hosted its 8th Holiday Celebration with a special appearance from the jolly Mr. Santa Claus.  From dancing to prancing to drinking slushies it was FREE for all of our YMCA families and a great time was had by all.  Visit our Photo Gallery for pictures.  

2011 WINTERFEST (Sunday, December 18) - Our annual celebration was a holiday spectacular for the entire family with music, food, dancing, singing, drama and more!

ZUMBA FITNESS PARTY (Friday, November 18) - DITCH THE WORKOUT.  JOIN THE PARTY.  We had a great time getting physical and having fun.  If you'd like to have Zumba classes here on a regular basis, please contact us at 973-673-5588 or e-mail us at efrontdeak@metroymcas.org.

CARING WEEK AT THE Y (Thursday, November 17 - Wednesday, November 23, 2011) - The YMCA of the USA teamed up with Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation to present "Caring Week at the Y," which focused on the pillar of Social Responsibility (one of our areas of focus) and the East Orange YMCA On-site After School Program was a part of this wonderful event.

CAPOEIRA PROGRAM (Tuesday, November 15) - GET PHYSICAL.  HAVE FUN.  NEW PROGRAM began Tuesday, November 15 and every Tuesday and Thursday to follow.  Visit our Programs-Capoeira page for more information.

SAFETY and COMFORT FOR CHILDREN (Monday, November 14) - BE RESPONSIBLE.  The East Orange YMCA On-site After School Program hosted a "Safety and Comfort for Children" Parent Workshop in the Turrell Gymnasium at 159 North Munn Avenue from 5:30 - 7:00pm.  Our guest presenter was Rosalynn Johnson, DYFS Resource Family Recruiter.  For more information about all of our After School and Child Care Programs, visit our Programs-Child Care page.

THE 3B's: BIBLE, BRUNCH and BASKETBALL (Sunday, November 13) - BRINGING THE "C" BACK TO THE YMCA.  NEW PROGRAM began Sunday, November 13 and scheduled for the 2nd and last Sunday of each month.  Visit our Programs-Bible, Brunch and Basketball page for more information.

FUN DAY CELEBRATION (October 28, 2011) - We hosted a costume and dance contest, mummy race and more for the East Orange YMCA Onsite After School children.  Come back soon for photos.

CALLING ALL PRINCESSES, CAPTAIN AMERICAS, SMURFS, GREEN LANTERNS AND ANYTHING YOU CAN IMAGINE! (October 30, 2011) - CANCELLED due to snow storm.  The East Orange YMCA is hosting it's annual Costume Party at Turrell's Gymnasium 159 North Munn Avenue from 3:00 - 6:00pm for ages 1 - 8 years old.  There will be prizes, goodie bags, food, movies and more!  Parents PLEASE no scary costumes. 

DIVISION OF YOUTH AND FAMILY SERVICES (DYFS) INFORMATIONAL SESSION (October 22, 2011) - This session was made available to anyone interested in learning about how to become a foster parent for children in need of placement.  For more information, contact Roslyn Johnson, Resource Family Recruiter, at DYFS. 

NATIONAL LIGHTS ON AFTER SCHOOL CELEBRATION (October 20, 2011) - The EAST ORANGE YMCA Onsite After School Program joined this 2011 Rally for After School Programs celebration and hosted a family movie night in the Turrell Gymnasium.  For more information about our After School Programs, visit our After School page.

YMCA'S DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM (October 18, 2011) - YOU CAN TAKE CONTROL!  The EAST ORANGE YMCA hosted an informational to help you know how to reduce your risk for type 2 diabetes and gain tools for healthy living.  For more information, please contact Jennifer Shukalitis, Program Coordinator at 973-758-9622 or jshukaitis@metroymcas.org.  Also, visit our Diabetes Prevention Program page.  
 
YMCA's DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM (August 9, 2011) - YOU CAN TAKE CONTROL!  The EAST ORANGE YMCA hosted an informational to help you reduce your risk for type 2 diabetes and gain tools for healthy living.  This new program offered at the Y can help you to prevent or significantly delay the onset of diabetes.  A question-and-answer session was held in order for those to learn more and to find out if they or someone they knew were eligible to benefit from this new program.  The YMCA is committed to helping prevent chronic disease by giving individuals of all ages tools for healthy living.  For more information, please contact Jennifer Shukaitis, Program Coordinator at 973-758-9622 or jshukaitis@metroymcas.org.

UNITED BUSINESS AFFAIR AND SHOWCASE (July 23, 2011) - The EAST ORANGE YMCA hosted a day for attendees to have an opportunity to listen to companies about their business, services offered and what business opportunities and possible employment they had available.  They also had the opportunity to listen to motivational speakers as well as ask any questions they had throughout the showcase regarding the featured companies.

KIDZ VILLAGE (June 16, 2011) - The EAST ORANGE YMCA's Childcare Program took the preschoolers on a trip to Kidz Village, which is a children's play facility created for kids 10 and under.

CELEBRATION OF LEARNING GARDEN (June 15, 2011) - New Jersey Audobon (NJA) fosters environmental awareness and a conservation ethic among New Jersey's citizens; protects New Jersey's birds, mammals, other animals and plants, especially endangered and threatened species; and promotes preservation of New Jersey's valuable natural habitats.  NJA held learning workshops for our After-School Program children.  Subsequently, they created a beautiful bird/garden sanctuary in front of the Main Building and received Natural Science Award certificates for their achievements.

EAST ORANGE EDUCATION FOUNDATION, INC. SPELLING BEE (June 4, 2011) - The EAST ORANGE YMCA - QUEEN BEES (staff) participated in the EOEF's 12th Annual Intergenerational City-Wide spelling bee fundraiser.  All proceeds were designated for scholarships.  

A NIGHT OF CONSTANT JAZZ (May 14, 2011) - An evening of jazz with Robert Constant and fundraiser to support the EAST ORANGE YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.  

THE MINORITY ACHIEVERS AWARDS (May 4, 2011) - The Honorable Robert L. Bowser, Mayor, City of East Orange and the EAST ORANGE Turrell Branch YMCA presented these recipients with the 2011 Minority Achiever of the Year Award for the Fifteenth Annual Minority Achievers Business, Industry and Government Awards Banquet in recognition of their professional accomplishments and community involvement and our teens were honored as well.

THE SIXTH ANNUAL HISTORICALLY BLACK COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES TOUR (April 18-21, 2011) Every year the EAST ORANGE YMCA sponsors a tour for high school students in the 9 - 12 grades so they may explore higher learning opportunities.  In 2011, we visited Coppin State University (Baltimore, MD), Hampton University (Hampton, VA), Howard University (Washington, DC), Morgan State university (Baltimore, MD) and Norfolk State University (Norfolk, VA).

WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD (WOYC) (April 14, 2011) - In an effort to help our preschoolers begin to understand the importance of community service, the East Orange School District's three and four year old preschool children, the preschool teaching staff, the early childhood staff and the parents participated in a community service food drive and march to City Hall.
