- Confirm if you are registered for extended hours if you need it. Regular hours are from 9:00-5:00pm. Extended hours are from 8:00-9:00am and 5:00-6:00pm.
- The Division of Prevention and Community Partnerships (DPCP) reminds dads, moms, teens and children everywhere to continue to stay safe throughout the remainder of the summer season. PROTECTION AGAINST THE SUN:
- DO apply sunscreen daily. Regardless of skin color, it is highly recommended for protection against the damaging effects of the sun.
- DO use a sunscreen. Note: The Sun Protection Factor (SPF) refers to the ability to block harmful sun rays and does not increase proportionately as the number increases, so it's up to you to know how fast you burn and how long you will be in the sun to decide on which SPF level to purchase. Sunscreens expire quickly, so check dates on products.
- DO wear cotton clothing. Cotton absorbs moisture and will keep your body more comfortable.
- DO NOT wear dark clothing. Dark colors absorb UV light, so lighter colors will keep you cooler.
- DO NOT go without wearing sunglasses. Your eyes need protection, too.
- DO use trusted products that have UVB (burning) and UVA (aging).
SWIMMING HAIR CARE TIPS:
- DO use swimming caps. They may be considered unattractive, but caps allow hair to not be as damaged from the effects of chlorine.
- DO NOT use heat on the hair. Any excessive heat from styling tools can further damage hair.
- DO moisturize before swimming. Moisturing limits the drying effects of the chlorine and provides a protective barrier.
- DO rinse your hair thoroughly with tap water after swimming. When salt from the chlorine dries it causes breakage.
- DO use trusted hair care products.
SWIMMING SAFTEY TIPS:
- DO make sure the pool has adult supervision/lifeguard(s). Our lifeguards are certified.
- DO take formal swimming lessons. We offer lessons for all ages HERE.
- DO NOT swallow pool water (if you can avoid it).
- DO NOT horse play or run around pool area. An accident can happen very quickly.
PARENT TESTIMONIALS:
"I think this is one of the best camps my child has attended because the staff is nice, the activities and the trips are fun for all the children."
"I love that the YMCA has taught my daughter how to swim. My daughter has improved her socialization skills since she began at the YMCA and the hours are perfect for my work schedule."
"My son loves going on trips, playing in the playground and swimming most of all."
