The EAST ORANGE YMCA has long been viewed as a leader in the community and has has served in numerous capacities in its continuing effort to build an all-inclusive environment.  The Y is for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility and all of our efforts address these areas of focus.

CAREER
 
The First Occupational Center of New Jersey is the state's oldest and largest vocational training and job placement agency providing services to developmentally disabled, elderly and economically disadvantaged New Jersey residents and their families since 1954.  They use our facility for special programs.

The Unique Schools Opportunity Program provides employment for high school students at the EAST ORANGE YMCA


COMMUNITY

On June 17, 2011 the EAST ORANGE YMCA "EAGLE" Library was built by the Boy Scouts of America's Northern New Jersey Council thanks to Liz Hemminger, Michael Dowd and Jonty Hatcher of Troop 364 in Belleville, New Jersey.  Click HERE for more.

The Partnership for Children of Essex is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a pathway of hope and improving the quality of life for youth and their families.  The EAST ORANGE YMCA was proud to participate during their Summer Camp and College Fair in April 2011.

The EAST ORANGE YMCA participated in The City of East Orange Division of Employment & Training, Workforce Development's 2011 Teen Job Week to give teenagers the opportunity to attend pre-employment/workreadiness sessions designed to assist them in their jobe search for the summer.

 
DISABILITY / SPECIAL NEEDS
 
Easter Seals New Jersey enables individuals with disabilities or special needs and their families to live, learn, work and play in their communities with equality, dignity and independence.  They use our facility for special programs.

EDUCATION

The EAST ORANGE YMCA is a collaborative partner with the East Orange School District (Board of Education) in providing the Abbott Preschool Program. The YMCA is honored to play an integral role in this partnership and assist in providing such a valuable service to the community.
 
Every year the EAST ORANGE YMCA sponsors a Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) tour for high school students in the 9 - 12 grades so they may explore higher learning opportunities.  Schools visited have been Coppin State University (Baltimore, MD), Hampton University (Hampton, VA), Howard University (Washington, DC), Morgan State University (Baltimore, MD) and Norfolk State University (Norfolk, VA).  Click HERE for photos from previous tours.
 
 
ENVIRONMENT
 
New Jersey Audobon (NJA) fosters environmental awareness and a conservation ethic among New Jersey's citizens; protects New Jersey's birds, mammals, other animals and plants, especially endangered and threatened species; and promotes preservation of New Jersey's valuable natural habitats.  NJA held learning workshops for our After-School Program children and subsequently they created a beautiful bird/garden sanctuary in front of the Main Building.  Check out photos from our Celebration of Learning Garden.


FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Need help paying for Child Care?  The EAST ORANGE YMCA AFTER SCHOOL, PRE-K and SUMMER DAY CAMP PROGRAMS accept Programs For Parents (PFP) Comprehensive Services for Children and Families .  If you are working or in school full-time, you may qualify according to your income.  The following types of care are eligible for PFP: infant and toddler, pre-school, school-age programs, day camp and care given by a relative or friend who passes a home inspection.  Please call (973) 733-4174 for more information.

 
HEALTH / NUTRITION


LifeWellLaughed.com is a project from The Laughing Cow, which seeks to inspire, educate and support communities across the nation to live healthier lifestyles for our kids and the EAST ORANGE YMCA has partnered with them because we share a common mission: to enrich the lives of children, families and communities we serve through programs that build spirit, mind and body.  

 

SENIORS
 
The Seniors of The Retirement Club of Orange use our pool for weekly Senior Water Aerobic Classes.
 
 
TRAVEL
 
Clevercommute.com is a commuter-to-commuter service that allows real-time riders to exchange information (i.e. delays, re-routes, track numbers, etc...) about their commute on various lines (train, bus, ferry, etc...).  Businesses can also pay for sponsored alerts on specific lines.  Thanks to this service the EAST ORANGE YMCA has started promoting summer camp and swimming for 2011.
