OCTOBER IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH
New Jersey Department of Children and Families Division of Prevention and Community Partnerships wants to share this information with you regarding domestic violence because it can happen to anyone.
WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR A FRIEND?  Educate yourself.  Listen.  Be a friend.  Remain supportive.  Remember to let the victim decide what's best.
WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR YOURSELF?  Tell yourself it's not your fault.  Develop a support network.  Tell others you trust.  Identify escape routes to flee from unsafe situations.  Trust your instincts.

CARING WEEK AT THE Y
From Thursday, November 17 through Wednesday, November 23, 2011, the YMCA of the USA teamed up with Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation to present "Caring Week at the Y," which  focused on the pillar of Social Responsibility (one of our areas of focus) and the East Orange YMCA On-site After School Program was a part of this wonderful event.
EAST ORANGE YMCA "EAGLE" LIBRARY (June 17, 2011)
Boy Scout - Mike Nat Jonty frameCompared to other birds, eagles generally have broader wing spans and soar to great heights.  We know when our children read more they increase their ability to believe they can spread their proverbial wings and fly high despite circumstances.  The East Orange YMCA Turrell Gymnasium is proud to announce the opening of the "East Orange YMCA "EAGLE" Library" with over 700 books for 3-16 year olds thanks to our partnership with the Boy Scouts of America's Northern New Jersey Council (NNJBSA).  We salute Liz Hemminger and Michael Dowd who assisted Jonty Hatcher of Troop 364 from Belleville, New Jersey who volunteered to build the library as a part of receiving his Eagle Scout badge, which is the highest rank in Boy Scouting.
